by Heather Bennett
Without realizing it, you could be dehydrated. Whenever you're hungry, and you know you've had plenty to eat, grab a glass of water. We tend to feel hungry when, in fact, we are thirsty. It's easy to skip the water when you're pregnant. Between the horrible taste in your mouth and frequent urination, the last thing you feel like doing is drinking a lot of water. But this is very important. You are already going to be retaining a lot of water, and ironically it TAKES water to rid yourself of water. Keeping yourself well-hydrated will not only keep you trimmer from water gain, it also keeps your appetite under control.
Another way to maintain a good diet is by making sure your calories count. This means choosing foods that are what we call "nutrient-dense." Make sure you are eating adequate amounts of protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates, and other vitamins and minerals. These will provide the things you need to keep you going and feeling well nourished. They will also give you the energy to get through the day that seems to be zapped when you are pregnant.
Nutrition is only half of it, however. The other is activity level. I know this is a very tiring period of time, however, the more focused you are with your fitness, the more energy and strength you will acquire. Keep moving! Keep your blood flowing to your whole body as well as your baby's. Keep your body strong. With proper supervision and plenty of good hydration, exercising will be quite rewarding.
